Why Use Organic Toothpaste
A tube of toothpaste seems harmless enough, but is it really so? Well it might appear so, particularly when you have some of the biggest consumer products brands lending their weight to the product and creating a false sense of security. If the word ‘false’ rings an alarm in your mind you should know that the toothpaste you use everyday may not be too good for your health or your teeth in the long run. If you want to avoid some of the harmful ingredients in artificial toothpastes, using organic toothpaste may be your only choice.
The presence of sodium lauryl sulfate or SLS, in your toothpaste should be enough reason for you to trash it right away. But the fact is that, most toothpastes sold with much fanfare and celebrity endorsements, contain many harmful chemicals other than SLS! SLS is used in toothpastes mainly because it can create the ‘foaming effect’ in your mouth. But do you know that it is chemically classified as a detergent and that too a rather harsh one which is used to clean oil spills from petrol forecourts? However shocking it may be, the inconvenient truth is that the FMCG companies use SLS a lot, because it is cheap, though certainly not healthy.
You may think of turning to organic toothpaste because:- SLS has a toxic effect on your liver and kidneys. Given that while brushing your teeth you are sure to ingest some of the stuff, this is a fact you should be particularly aware of.
- SLS is also on the NIH hazard list and is known to trigger eczema and other skin problems. Organic toothpastes can provide you a welcome break from synthetic chemical laden toothpastes. By using them, you can look forward to benefits such as:
- The thorough but gentle cleansing effects of essential oils such as mint and menthol. These are common ingredients in natural toothpastes and improve your dental hygiene significantly.
- Organic toothpaste containing clay can also provide better whitening than most over the conventional toothpastes.
- If you suffer from gingivitis, mouth ulcers or other wounds in your mouth, you will find that organic brands of toothpaste have healing effects on these problems.
- If you think only artificial toothpastes can give you fresh breath, you are wrong. You can get natural fresh breath, which lasts longer, by using organic brands as well.
So, if you want to avoid the harmful effects of chemical substances such as sodium lauryl sulfate, you may switch over to organic toothpaste and breathe fresh and easy everyday!
